Head-On Collision with Tow Truck Crash Leaves 73-Year-Old Man Dead

HUNTINGTOWN, MD – The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office reports a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred this morning on Plum Point Road at the intersection of Kimberly Lane in Huntingtown.

At approximately 9:42 a.m. on January 5, deputies from the Patrol Bureau responded to the scene of the accident involving a 2001 Peterbilt tow truck and a 2018 Ford Edge. The initial investigation indicates that the Ford Edge, driven by 73-year-old Gregory L. Cristarella of Huntingtown, was traveling westbound on Plum Point Road. Witnesses observed Cristarella driving on the wrong side of the road, leading to a head-on collision with the tow truck.

Cristarella was transported to CalvertHealth Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased. The tow truck driver, 42-year-old Robert H. Bradford of Mechanicsville, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to CalvertHealth.


The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a thorough investigation of the incident. Master Deputy First Class Jeffrey Hardesty of the Crash Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation.
