ALLEGANY COUNTY, MD – The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office has issued a winter storm warning, effective from 7 AM to 7 PM EST Saturday. Residents in portions of western Maryland and eastern West Virginia are advised to prepare for severe winter conditions.
The warning anticipates heavy mixed precipitation with snow and sleet accumulations ranging from 4 to 7 inches and ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch. The storm is expected to begin as snow between 7 and 10 AM, transitioning to a mix of sleet and freezing rain in the afternoon, and concluding by the evening.
Authorities caution that road conditions will likely be slippery, and travel may be hazardous. Residents who need to travel are urged to carry essential items such as an extra flashlight, food, and water. The public is also advised to be cautious of icy conditions on steps, sidewalks, and driveways to prevent falls and injuries.
