New Jersey Braces for Severe Winter Weather: Advisories and Warnings Issued

Erica Schmidt

NEW JERSEY – The New Jersey State Police have issued multiple advisories and warnings in anticipation of severe winter weather forecasted for this Saturday into Sunday. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Morris, Sussex, Warren, western Bergen, and western Passaic Counties. A Winter Weather Advisory covers Hunterdon, Somerset, and parts of Bergen, Essex, Passaic, and Union Counties. Ocean County faces a Coastal Flood Advisory, while a Coastal Flood Statement is announced for Hudson, eastern Essex, and eastern Union Counties. Additionally, a Gale Warning is in place for Atlantic coastal waters and the Raritan Bay.

Impacts across New Jersey are expected to vary, with snow and a wintry mix potentially hindering travel in northern counties. Coastal and southern areas might experience heavy rainfall leading to localized flooding, particularly in poorly drained or low-lying areas. Wind gusts ranging from 20 mph to 40 mph could create hazardous travel conditions. Minor coastal flooding is also a possibility, especially in Ocean County during the Saturday night/Sunday morning high tide.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates, check traffic conditions at 511nj.org, and be aware of warming centers available through NJ 2-1-1 or nj211.org. The police also emphasize caution around downed power lines and flooded roadways, advising against touching or driving over live wires and obeying traffic barriers.
