Bridge Damage Closes Parts of I-70 and S. 4th St. in Columbus, Detours Advised

COLUMBUS, OH – A significant incident occurred on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 4:44 p.m., when a semi-truck struck a bridge on Interstate 70 westbound near S. 4th St. The Columbus Division of Police reported that the damage to the bridge is severe, necessitating the closure of both I-70 westbound and S. 4th St. for several days.

To navigate around the closure, officials have provided detour routes. Traffic on I-70 west will be rerouted to I-71 north, then to 670 west, and back to I-70 west. Similarly, I-71 south traffic will be directed to I-70 east, then to I-270 south to rejoin I-71 south. For local detours, High St. or S. Grant Ave. can be used as alternatives to S. 4th St.

The eastbound lanes of I-70 are unaffected by the incident and will remain open. Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and expect possible delays in the affected areas.
