NYC Mayor Files $708 Million Lawsuit Over Migrant Busing

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has filed a lawsuit against 17 bus companies for transporting tens of thousands of migrants to various cities, including New York, at the direction of Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The lawsuit, filed with the Supreme Court for the State of New York, seeks $708 million in compensation.

Adams asserts that the bus companies violated a 19th-century New York law designed to protect “needy people” who become public wards. The complaint highlights the significant number of migrants bused to ‘sanctuary cities’ such as New York City (over 33,600), Chicago (over 28,000), the District of Columbia (12,500), Denver (13,800), Philadelphia (3,400), and Los Angeles (1,300).

The lawsuit alleges that these actions contravene laws meant to safeguard individuals in need and place an undue burden on the recipient cities. This legal action represents a significant response to the ongoing issue of migrant transportation and its impact on cities across the United States.
