COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA – In a shocking discovery, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies found 14 dead dogs in the home of Margaret Nevils in Grovetown, Georgia. The disturbing find occurred on January 4, 2024, following a welfare check initiated by a concerned neighbor.

According to the incident report, a neighbor, who had not seen Nevils since October 2023, alerted the authorities. Upon arrival, deputies noticed an emaciated pit bull and extensive fecal matter covering the floors of the residence. A thorough search revealed three dead dogs in the bedroom, one in the freezer, three in the refrigerator, and seven more dead puppies scattered throughout the house. All the animals were in varying stages of decomposition.

The deputies also noted blood seeping from the freezer section of a refrigerator-freezer unit. Upon opening the freezer door, they discovered a black trash bag with an animal foot protruding from it. The house was in a state of disrepair, with chewed walls in the kitchen and garage, multiple empty dog cages, and shredded furniture.

Nevils was arrested following this grisly discovery, marking a disturbing case of animal cruelty in Columbia County.
