BUFFALO, NY – Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced that 31-year-old Mahzhee X. Young of Buffalo has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The sentencing, which also includes 5 years of post-release supervision, was delivered by Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes. This sentence stems from an incident that occurred on June 9, 2020, at around 11:18 p.m.

Young was involved in a verbal altercation outside of a corner store on East Ferry Street and Grider Street in Buffalo, during which he shot 27-year-old David D. Moore multiple times with an illegal gun.

Moore, who was transported to ECMC by a private vehicle, succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Young pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felony) on October 4, 2023.

The District Attorney commended Detectives Joseph Christopher, Ray Krug, and Mark White of the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad for their work in the investigation.v
