Trio Arrested in Connection to East Harlem Homicide

NEW YORK, NY – Three arrests have been made in connection with a homicide in East Harlem, as announced by the NYPD. The incidents leading to these arrests unfolded within the 25th Precinct, starting with a 911 call on January 6, 2024.

At around 7:27 PM on January 6, police responded to an assault report at 600 East 125 Street. A 24-year-old male, later identified as Dafren Canizalez, was found with a stab wound to the torso. Despite emergency services’ efforts, Canizalez was pronounced dead at NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem. A 26-year-old male was initially detained at the scene.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Moises Coronado, a 27-year-old resident of 50 East River Lane, on charges of murder. This arrest occurred early on January 7.


Two additional arrests were made on January 8 at 10:30 PM. Ferneys Horta, 33, and Anthony Navas, 27, both residents of 50 East River Lane, were charged with murder and gang assault, respectively.

The NYPD continues to investigate the incident and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
