Purse Stealing Teen Arrested In Utica

UTICA, NY — A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested on January 10, 2024, following an investigation into a purse theft and subsequent fraudulent credit card use in Utica.

The Utica Police Department began the investigation in late November after receiving a report of a purse stolen from a motor vehicle. It was later discovered that a credit card from the purse was used for multiple unauthorized purchases.

The Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center played a crucial role in the case by distributing surveillance videos, which led to a positive identification of the juvenile suspect.

Upon arrest, the juvenile was charged with two counts each of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree and Identity Theft in the second degree.

Following the charges, the juvenile was issued an Appearance Ticket and released into the care of a guardian. This case highlights the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between law enforcement and crime analysis units in addressing property and identity theft crimes.
