NEW YORK CITY, NY — Democratic State Assemblywoman Jaime Williams expressed strong disapproval towards President Joe Biden and NYC Mayor Eric Adams following the temporary closure of James Madison High School in Brooklyn. The school shifted to remote learning to accommodate 2,000 immigrants at Floyd Bennett Field, a decision Williams labeled as “disruptive” for students and parents.

In a conversation with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Williams conveyed the community’s frustration, asserting that the needs of migrants were being prioritized over local children and residents. This situation has sparked considerable debate in the area, reflecting broader tensions over immigration policies and their local impact.

New York City has seen an influx of over 130,000 migrants in the past 18 months, as reported by the New York Times. This surge prompted Mayor Adams to implement budget cuts, including reduced library hours and a hiring freeze for the NYPD, to manage the costs associated with housing the new arrivals.

Williams criticized the federal government for its handling of the issue, arguing that it has unfairly burdened local communities. She emphasized the need for a reevaluation of national immigration policies and border control, voicing concern for the well-being of American citizens and taxpayers.

Mayor Adams recently announced plans to sue bus companies responsible for transporting migrants to the city, highlighting the financial strain faced by the city due to the continuous arrival of migrants. This move comes in response to the actions of Republican Governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Doug Ducey of Arizona, who began sending migrants to sanctuary cities like New York in 2022.
