Florida Woman Charged with Manslaughter in Mother’s Death

BREVARD COUNTY, FL — Kelly Ann Olivier Tinsley, 49, faces manslaughter charges in the fatal stabbing of her 69-year-old mother, Cheryl Maggard Meurer. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident, with Tinsley claiming self-defense.

Authorities responded to a 911 call from Tinsley at 5:16 a.m. on Tuesday. During the call, Tinsley alleged that Meurer had attacked her, leading to a reciprocal attack. However, she disconnected the call when questioned about the location of her mother’s wounds.

Deputies arrived at the scene at 5:26 a.m., where they found Meurer deceased under a blanket, surrounded by a pool of blood. Tinsley was discovered lying awake in the hallway, facing the door, near suspected blood stains on a washing machine.

In their affidavit, deputies noted inconsistencies in Tinsley’s claims of self-defense. The injuries she presented did not align with typical defensive knife wounds. Tinsley is currently held in Brevard County Jail, with her charges reclassified to manslaughter using a deadly weapon. This case adds to the growing concerns about domestic incidents in the area.
