GAINESVILLE, FL — The Alachua County Fall Term Grand Jury indicted Javon Barclay, 29, on charges of First Degree Murder, Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Grand Theft of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Felony Driving while License Suspended, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude. This indictment follows an investigation into a fatal shooting incident that occurred in September last year.

On the evening of September 17, deputies were called to Cynthia Chestnut Park around 6:43 p.m. following reports of gunshots. A male victim with multiple gunshot wounds was found in the park’s parking lot. He succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

The subsequent day, September 18, deputies located and pursued the victim’s stolen car, leading to Barclay’s arrest. The arrest utilized a precision immobilization technique to safely apprehend Barclay, who was initially charged with offenses not related to the homicide.

This case continues to develop as the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office proceeds with its investigation. Further updates are expected as more details become available.
