Police Seeking Fugitive Wanted for Shooting in Homestead

HOMESTEAD, PA – A manhunt is underway for a Wilkinsburg man, identified as the suspect in a recent shooting in Homestead. The Allegheny County Police Department is actively searching for 60-year-old Evan Hughes following the incident.

The shooting occurred around 4:20 am on January 17, in the 1000 block of West Street. County 911 received reports of the incident, prompting immediate response from first responders. Upon arrival, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to his back. The victim was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

The Allegheny County Police Department’s General Investigations Unit took over the case, initiating a thorough investigation into the shooting. Detectives gathered evidence indicating that the suspect forcibly entered the residence on West Street by kicking in the side door. An altercation ensued between Hughes and the victim, during which a gunshot was fired, resulting in the victim’s injury.


Key to the identification of Hughes as the suspect were surveillance video footage and interviews with witnesses.
