Suspect Charged for Multiple Stabbings in Queens

QUEENS, NY — Jermain Rigueur, 27, was arraigned today on multiple charges following a series of stabbings in Springfield Gardens and Jamaica. The attacks, which occurred over two days, left four people injured.

District Attorney Katz commented on the severity of the unprovoked attacks, praising the NYPD for their swift action in apprehending Rigueur. Katz emphasized the importance of holding those responsible for random violence accountable.

Rigueur, a resident of 160th Street in Springfield Gardens, faces a 19-count complaint. The charges include three counts of attempted murder in the second degree, three counts of assault in the first degree, attempted assault in the first degree, eight counts of assault in the second degree, and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. If convicted, he could face up to 90 years in prison. Queens Criminal Court Judge Marty Lentz scheduled the next court appearance for January 31.


Details of the incidents, supported by video surveillance, reveal a series of violent actions by Rigueur:

  • On Tuesday around 12:05 a.m., he stabbed a 34-year-old woman near 158th Street and 134th Avenue, resulting in internal bleeding.
  • At approximately 12:13 a.m., Rigueur made stabbing motions at Gas City Smoke Shop on Guy R. Brewer Boulevard.
  • On Wednesday at about 7:21 a.m., he stabbed a 74-year-old man on 134th Avenue near Guy R. Brewer Boulevard, requiring abdominal surgery.
  • Minutes later, near 137th Avenue and 160th Street, Rigueur stabbed a 41-year-old man in the lower back.
  • Around 8:00 a.m., following an altercation on an MTA bus, Rigueur stabbed another man at Parsons Boulevard and Archer Avenue.

Evidence including a blood-stained sweatshirt and a Bowie knife was recovered from Rigueur’s backpack under a search warrant executed yesterday at approximately 6:35 p.m.
