Howard County Man Claims $50,000 Powerball Prize

A man from Howard County, Maryland, has claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize from the drawing held last October. Although he usually prefers playing Racetrax, he decided to buy a Powerball ticket on October 4 due to the estimated jackpot of $1.2 billion at the time. He narrowly missed the jackpot but secured one of Maryland’s two third-tier prizes in that draw.

The winner, a married father of two and an information technology professional, occasionally plays Powerball. For the lucky draw, he decided to replay numbers from a previous ticket, a decision he made while on his way to work with some extra cash.

He purchased his ticket at Calverton Exxon in Beltsville and was working from home on the day of the draw. Typically checking his tickets at night, he didn’t check his $15 ticket until the next morning, discovering he had won $50,000.

The excitement of the win led him to wake his wife to share the news. A few days later, while at Calverton Exxon, he overheard the owner announce the sale of a $50,000 winning Powerball ticket at the store. Keeping his win discreet, he waited until 2024 to claim his prize at the Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The winner plans to use his prize money to pay off debts, donate to charity, and support his daughter’s college expenses.
