YWCA Spokane Announces 2024 Women of Achievement Honorees

Spokane, Washington – YWCA Spokane is set to honor eight remarkable women for their contributions to the community in the upcoming 42nd Annual Women of Achievement Awards Ceremony and Luncheon. The event, scheduled for March 15th at the Davenport Grand, will recognize these women for their dedication to empowering others and fostering a better community. Among the honorees is U.S. Attorney Vanessa R. Waldref, celebrated for her significant contributions in Government and Public Service.

The YWCA Women of Achievement Award recognizes women who align with the organization’s mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. This year’s honorees have been instrumental in enhancing Spokane’s cultural, social, and educational landscape.

The 2024 Women of Achievement Award recipients are:

  • Denise Smart: Science, Technology, and Environment Award
  • Sindhu Surapaneni: Young Woman of Achievement Award

U.S. Attorney Waldref, the first woman to serve as U.S. Attorney for Eastern Washington, is recognized for her relentless efforts in addressing critical issues such as violent crime, child exploitation, fraud, corruption, drug trafficking, and environmental degradation. Her career, primarily dedicated to public service, exemplifies her commitment to the public’s well-being.

For over four decades, YWCA Spokane has been acknowledging the significant achievements of women in the region, honoring over 260 women to date. The 2024 Women of Achievement Awards aim to increase awareness and appreciation for the diverse contributions of women leaders in Spokane.
