New Jersey Accelerates Clean Energy Transition with New Offshore Wind Projects

TRENTON – The New Jersey Wind Works Coalition has praised Governor Murphy’s administration and the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) for their commitment to offshore wind development. The announcement of project awards from the state’s third round of solicitations marks a significant step in New Jersey’s journey towards a sustainable future.

The coalition asserts that offshore wind is pivotal for New Jersey, offering environmental and economic benefits. Projects underway aim to power over 700,000 homes, generate nearly $2 billion in local economic activity, and create thousands of jobs within the clean energy sector.

Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, commended Governor Murphy and the BPU for their leadership in offshore wind development. He emphasized the projects’ role in combating climate change, improving air quality, and bolstering the local economy with union jobs.


Anjuli Ramos-Busot, Director of the NJ Sierra Club, highlighted the importance of these projects for New Jersey’s transition to clean energy and meeting offshore wind goals.

William C. Sproule, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, expressed the union’s readiness to contribute skilled labor to this emerging sector. The union’s investment in training centers underscores their commitment to building the offshore wind industry.
