Abandoned Child Found in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Alexandria Police Department, in collaboration with Alexandria DCHS Child Protective Services (CPS), is currently conducting a joint investigation into a case of an abandoned child.

The young girl, estimated to be between one and two years old, was found on Wednesday night on South Van Dorn Street and is now safely under the care of Alexandria DCHS Child Welfare Services. The child was discovered in good health and appropriately dressed for the weather.

The incident was first reported at approximately 9:45 p.m. when witnesses saw a man leaving the child in front of 8 South Van Dorn Street.


Upon their arrival, Alexandria Police officers located the child, who was not recognized by locals. Detectives were summoned to the scene, and Alexandria CPS was notified. Investigations are ongoing to identify the vehicle and person involved, including the examination of potential video evidence.

Alexandria Police Department and CPS social workers are engaging with family members to assist with the investigation.
