Fatal Traffic Collision on Colesville Road Claims Life of 79-Year-Old

Colesville, MD – The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on Colesville Road. The tragic incident, which took place on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, resulted in the death of a 79-year-old Beltsville resident, Thambiraj Nathaniel.

At around 1:08 p.m., officers from the 3rd District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the collision near Timberwood Avenue. The preliminary investigation revealed that a gray 2016 Subaru Forester, driven by Nathaniel, was attempting a left turn from southbound Colesville Road onto Timberwood Avenue. During the maneuver, the Subaru was struck by a silver 2017 Nissan Rouge traveling northbound on Colesville Road.

The impact of the collision caused injuries to the Subaru’s driver and both passengers of the Nissan, who were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. However, the passenger of the Subaru, Thambiraj Nathaniel, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.


Sadly, on Sunday, January 28, Nathaniel succumbed to his injuries while still hospitalized. The Montgomery County Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation into this collision to understand the dynamics of the crash and any contributing factors.
