Berkeley Township, NJ – In a recent courtroom development, Angelo Grenci, 47, of Berkeley Township, has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the 2020 death of Carlton Williams, 50, of Seaside Heights. This plea was entered before the Honorable Kimarie Rahill, J.S.C., on January 29.

The incident traces back to the evening of November 14, 2020, when officers from Toms River Township and Berkeley Township Police Departments responded to a stabbing report at RWJ Barnabas Community Medical Center in Toms River. The victim, Carlton Williams, had sustained a stab wound to the neck and later died from his injuries on November 21 at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick. The Ocean County Medical Examiner ruled Williams’s death as homicide caused by anoxic brain injury due to massive bleeding from the stab wound.

An extensive investigation by several units, including the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime and High Tech Crime Units, Berkeley Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, concluded that Grenci stabbed Williams during an altercation near Magnolia Avenue in the Manitou Park section of Berkeley Township.

Grenci was arrested following a court-authorized search of his residence on November 16, 2020. He is currently serving a sentence in New Jersey State Prison for an unrelated matter. The State intends to seek a 25-year prison term at Grenci’s sentencing on April 19, under the No Early Release Act.
