New York, New Jersey Governors Tout $2 Billion in Revenue from 2026 World Cup

Trenton, NJ – This weekend, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and New York City Mayor Eric Adams heralded the selection of the New York New Jersey (NYNJ) region as the host for the FIFA World Cup 26 Final.

This landmark event will take place at the New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with the region set to host a total of eight matches throughout the tournament, culminating in the Final on July 19, 2026.

Governor Murphy, expressing his enthusiasm, highlighted the significance of this achievement for the region, emphasizing the values of diversity, equality, access, and inclusion that NYNJ represents. Mayor Adams echoed these sentiments, underscoring the historic nature of hosting the world’s most significant sporting event and its potential to create enduring memories, economic prosperity, and a lasting legacy for the region.


The FIFA World Cup 26 is set to be the most extensive edition of the tournament to date, featuring three host countries, 16 host cities, 48 teams, and 104 matches.

This new format is expected to be the most inclusive, engaging millions of fans in person and billions worldwide over a 39-day period, starting June 11, 2026.
