Easton, MD – A two-story, wood-framed single-family dwelling in Easton, Talbot County, was the scene of a significant fire on Saturday, February 3, 2024, that caused an estimated $150,000 in damages to both the structure and its contents. The Maryland Fire Marshal’s Office reported that the blaze occurred at 15 South Locust Lane and was discovered by a neighbor around 3:06 p.m.

The owner of the home, identified as Agustin Viveras Gomez, and any occupants were fortunate to escape without injuries, despite the presence of a smoke alarm that did not activate during the incident. The fire’s cause is still under investigation, with no arrests made in connection with the event.

The Easton Volunteer Fire Department was the primary agency responding to the emergency, with 40 firefighters managing to control the fire within 45 minutes after arriving at the scene. The property did not have a fire alarm or sprinkler system in place, a factor that might have impacted the outcome of the fire.

The incident, which drew two alarms, saw the fire originating from the rear exterior wall of the home. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the specific cause of the fire. The community has rallied around the homeowner, with efforts underway to support Gomez in the aftermath of the blaze.
