BETHESDA, MD – In a startling incident that shook the quiet streets of Bethesda, 67-year-old Walter Lee Wright was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary following a residential break-in on Thursday night.

The event unfolded just after 10:35 p.m. when officers from the 2nd District were dispatched to a home in the 4500 block of Dorset Ave., responding to a burglary in progress. The homeowner, in a state of alarm, had barricaded herself in her bathroom and called the police as Wright allegedly roamed through her house.

Upon arrival, law enforcement spotted Wright at the front of the property, in possession of items believed to be stolen from the home. Attempting to evade capture, Wright fled the scene but was subsequently apprehended by officers in the vicinity of Deal Pl. and Cumberland Ave.

The Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Investigative Section has taken the lead on the investigation, charging Wright with first-degree burglary among other related offenses. Following his arrest, Wright has been detained at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, held without bond.
