Atlantic City, NJ – The Atlantic City Police Department has successfully apprehended a couple accused of assaulting and attempting to rob a local cab driver, thanks to the collaborative efforts of city surveillance units and casino security staff. The incident occurred on the evening of February 5, 2024, around 7:15 PM, on the beach block of Arkansas Avenue.

Officers Irwin Sanchez and Juan Garcia responded to the scene after a distress call regarding a physical altercation. Upon arrival, they encountered the cab driver who had provided a ride to Eric Blanco-Reid and Brianne Cox. According to the driver’s account, upon reaching their destination, Blanco-Reid and Cox refused to pay for the ride.

A confrontation ensued when the driver attempted to follow the couple to obtain payment, leading to Blanco-Reid threatening the driver with a pocket knife. During the scuffle, the knife fell, and Cox picked it up before both suspects fled the scene. Fortunately, the cab driver did not suffer any injuries during the incident.

With the assistance of the Caesars Hotel and Casino security team, Officers Sanchez and Garcia acquired surveillance photos of Blanco-Reid and Cox. These images enabled the police department’s Surveillance Unit to trace the couple’s movements down the Boardwalk towards Bally’s Atlantic City, leading to their arrest.
