Vehicle Recovered in Tragic Crash Off Virginia Beach Pier

Jeff Jones

Norfolk, VA – In a meticulous recovery effort on Friday, February 2, Crofton Industries successfully retrieved a vehicle that had submerged off the 14th Street Pier on January 27. The operation began early in the morning, with a barge, crane, and dive team arriving at approximately 6:15 A.M. Utilizing sonar technology, the vehicle’s location was confirmed, leading to a diver securing it around 9:00 A.M. for removal. By 9:20 A.M., the crane had lifted the red Nissan Kicks onto the barge, marking the end of the vehicle’s retrieval from the water.

Contained within the vehicle was an adult male, who was pronounced deceased at 9:29 A.M. and subsequently transported to the Medical Examiner for identification. The deceased has been identified as a 57-year-old male from Virginia Beach, previously reported missing by his family. Investigations conducted thus far have found no evidence of criminal activity associated with the incident.

The focus of the recovery operation was on the safety of participants, preserving the integrity of evidence, and providing closure to the decedent’s family. Acknowledgment was given to the collaborative efforts of Crofton Industries, the Virginia Beach Fire Department, and the Chesapeake Fire Department in the handling of this tragic event.

Although the motivations behind the individual’s actions remain uncertain, indications suggest they were deliberate.
