Toms River, NJ – A fire broke out in the backyard of a home on Parkview Lane on Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, at around 2:45 PM, leading to the dispatch of Toms River Fire Company No. 1 and No. 2. First responders arrived at the scene to find a shed/chicken coop engulfed in flames.
Efforts from the crews of Toms River Fire Companies No. 1 and No. 2 contained the fire within approximately one hour, successfully limiting the damage to the shed/chicken coop situated at the rear of the property. At the time of the incident, approximately 11 chickens were housed inside the enclosure, out of which six succumbed to the fire.
Toms River Animal Control was called to the scene to handle the removal of the deceased chickens.
Preliminary investigations have identified the cause of the fire as accidental, stemming from an electric heating lamp used within the shed.
