NEWARK, DE – Delaware State Police have apprehended 54-year-old Nadeem Cassiem from Keasbey, New Jersey, following a vehicle theft incident on Interstate 95 in Newark. The arrest comes after Cassiem allegedly stole a good samaritan’s vehicle in the aftermath of a collision on the morning of February 7, 2024.

The incident unfolded around 7:09 a.m., when a white RAM pickup truck and a red Toyota Rav4 were involved in a rear-end collision on the southbound lane of I-95 near State Route 273. A passerby stopped to offer assistance to the drivers, during which Cassiem, identified as the Toyota driver, seized the opportunity to flee with the good samaritan’s Mercury Mountaineer SUV.

Delaware State Police launched an investigation, leading to Cassiem’s identification and subsequent location in Maryland by the Perryville Police Department. He was detained without incident and is pending extradition to Delaware, where he faces a felony charge of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, along with multiple traffic-related charges
