COLUMBIA, MD – A distressing incident occurred in Columbia when a school bus carrying students from Hammond Middle School overturned. Howard County police are currently investigating the single-vehicle collision that took place around 3:33 p.m. on the 7300 block of Old Columbia Road.

The northbound bus unexpectedly veered off the road, though the specific cause remains unknown at this time. Initial investigations have found no evidence suggesting driver impairment was a factor in the accident.

Among the 19 students on board, four were transported to the hospital—two males and two females between the ages of 11 and 14—for precautionary checkups. The 30-year-old female bus driver fortunately did not sustain injuries in the incident.
