WASHINGTON, DC – The D.C. Metro Police Department’s Homicide Branch has made a significant breakthrough in a homicide case from December, resulting in the arrest of a juvenile. The arrest came after a collaborative effort between MPD and the Prince George County Police Department on February 7, 2024.

The incident dates back to December 18th, when Fourth District officers, present at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Kennedy Street in Northwest, heard gunshots around 11:46 a.m. They quickly responded to the 5400 block of Illinois Avenue, Northwest, where they discovered 27-year-old Jihad Darden suffering from gunshot wounds. Darden was transported to a hospital by a private vehicle, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

After an extensive investigation, law enforcement officials located and arrested a 15-year-old male from Bowie, Maryland, yesterday. The arrest was executed under a DC Superior Court custody order. The juvenile is set to be extradited to Washington, DC, where he will face charges of First Degree Murder while Armed.
