Is A Huge Snow Storm Really Hitting New Jersey on Tuesday? Should You Be Concerned?

SNN Weather Center

TOMS RIVER, NJ – A huge snowstorm is coming to New Jersey on Tuesday. It’s going to be a blizzard with snow from 6 to 8 inches deep across the Garden State. That’s what many people are thinking today, but according to the National Weather Service, it’s just not true. It’s mostly because of bad headlines from the media and if you don’t read the full article, you might think the worst is coming.

In the media industry, it’s what’s called ‘clickbait’. They are intentionally misleading headlines.

“Snow storm to hit New Jersey on Tuesday!”

Well, yes, a snowstorm is moving through the region and yes, parts of northern New Jersey at higher elevations could see some snow, the forecast for the Garden State is calling for much less.

A winter storm watch has been issued for Passaic and Western Bergen County with snowfall amounts up to ten inches. That’s because the snow storm is expected to pass north of New Jersey with those counties getting the southern edge of the storm.

The National Weather Service’s Mount Holly station is giving a much different forecast. That station covers a majority of southern New Jersey, the Jersey Shore, and parts of Central New Jersey. It is predicting rain Monday night after 10 pm, running to a rain and snow mix overnight.

The Weather Channel is predicting AM snow on Tuesday, turning into rain later in the morning with a high of 40 degrees.

So if you live in the northern part of the state, yes, you should be prepared for heavy snowfall, if you live below Monmouth and Mercer County, expect some snow Tuesday morning and a tough commute perhaps. Ocean County and below is expected to just be rain.

So plan accordingly, but by all means, don’t panic because your feed is being bombarded with Snowmageddon posts.

National Weather Service Forecast by Mount Holly station as of 3:30 pm Saturday:

Monday Night Rain, mainly after 10 pm. Low around 35. Breezy. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch possible.

Tuesday Rain and snow, mainly before 1 pm. High near 41. Breezy. The chance of precipitation is 80%.
