Manchester, NJ – In a recent annual awards ceremony, the Manchester Police Department recognized Corporal Brian Collins with the Administrative Commendation Award for his exceptional contribution to enhancing department morale and efficiency. The award acknowledges officers who introduce devices, methods, or programs that significantly improve administrative or tactical operations or community affairs.
Corporal Collins was celebrated for initiating a tradition of crafting shadow boxes as parting gifts for officers retiring from Manchester Township. This initiative began following the unfortunate demise of Corporal Thompson in 2015, aiming to honor the service and memories of departing officers.
Since its inception, Collins has dedicated himself to creating 18 shadow boxes, investing 15-20 hours of meticulous labor into each piece. These shadow boxes, made in addition to his regular patrol responsibilities and duties as an active Police Benevolent Association (PBA) member, are largely completed during his off-duty hours.
The quality and sentiment of the shadow boxes have not only been a source of pride within the Manchester Police Department but have also garnered interest from other police departments seeking to adopt this meaningful tradition.
