Brick Township, NJ – A house fire in Brick Township called firefighters to action just after 11:45 PM, with initial reports indicating flames emanating from a garage. Upon arrival, police confirmed the presence of a working fire, prompting an automatic second alarm due to the severity of the situation.

The fire was sparked as the firefighter used a saw to cut through a metal garage door, igniting himself.

The first responding fire officer, identified as ‘2410’, arrived on the scene to assess a 1.5-story wood frame house with visible active fire. Following standard procedure, engine 2471 was directed to connect to a nearby hydrant and deploy a 1.75-inch line for an immediate fire attack.

Firefighting teams engaged in suppression efforts while conducting interior searches and combating the fire from inside the house. Concurrently, exterior crews aimed to ventilate the garage, the fire’s point of origin. A hazardous situation unfolded when, during the opening of the garage, gas was released and ignited by sparks from a tool, briefly engulfing a firefighter in flames.

Quick action by fellow firefighters prevented any injuries, successfully extinguishing the fire on the affected firefighter.

The firefighting operation lasted approximately 1.5 hours, with crews diligently working to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is currently under investigation by the Brick Township Fire Bureau.
