Washington, D.C. – The D.C. Metro Police Department’s Homicide Branch has successfully extradited a juvenile suspect linked to a fatal shooting incident in Northwest D.C. last December.
The incident, which claimed the life of 27-year-old Jihad Darden of Northwest, D.C., occurred on the morning of December 18, 2023. Officers from the Fourth District, upon hearing gunshots at Georgia Avenue and Kennedy Street Northwest, discovered the victim on the 5400 block of Illinois Avenue with gunshot injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital by a private vehicle, Darden succumbed to his injuries.
In a collaborative effort, detectives from the D.C. Metro Police Department’s Homicide Branch, along with the Prince Georges County Police Department, apprehended a 15-year-old male from Bowie, Maryland, on February 7, following a DC Superior Court custody order. The juvenile underwent extradition and was brought back to Washington, D.C.
Yesterday, the teenager was transported to the Homicide Branch, where he faced charges of First Degree Murder while Armed.
