Newark, DE – A tragic two-vehicle collision occurred early this morning in Newark, resulting in the death of one woman, as confirmed by the Delaware State Police.

The incident took place on February 16, 2024, at around 5:34 AM. A red 2019 Kia Forte, driven by a 73-year-old woman from Newark, Delaware, was making a left turn onto Augusta Drive from the left turn lane on E. Chestnut Hill Road (State Route 4). During the turn, the Kia entered the path of a silver 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, traveling eastbound in the right-thru lane, leading to a collision where the Chevrolet hit the right side of the Kia.

The elderly driver of the Kia was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of family and relatives. The 18-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet, also from Newark, Delaware, received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital.

The crash led to a closure of the roadway for about 4 hours to allow for investigation and clearing operations.
