Toms River is gearing up for a sweet competition as another ice cream shop announces its arrival right next to the newly opened Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers.

This new entrant into the ice cream scene comes with a rich history tied back to the 1940s Coney Island, where Angelina D’Esposito started her journey by selling ice cream tucked into freshly made Coney Waffles. Her grandson has since expanded the legacy by opening Coney Waffle, known for its over-the-top desserts, in several New Jersey locations and even in Brooklyn.

Coney Waffle’s menu boasts a variety of treats, including its signature waffles, milkshakes, brownie waffles, and more, aiming to add a unique flair to Toms River’s Hamburger Highway on Route 37.

This area is already a fast-food haven with Checkers, White Castle, McDonald’s, Burger King, and Burger 25. Coney Waffle’s upcoming opening next to Freddy’s sets the stage for a dessert duel that’s sure to attract sweet tooths from all over.

While the exact opening date for Coney Waffle in Toms River has not been announced, the anticipation is already building. With a reputation for creating extravagant desserts that are as much a visual treat as they are delicious, Coney Waffle is poised to become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. As the competition heats up, only time will tell how these two ice cream spots will coexist side by side. But one thing is for sure: ice cream lovers won’t be short of options.
