NEWARK, NJ – Amir Williams, a 25-year-old from Newark, New Jersey, has been sentenced to 235 months in prison for his role in a series of armed robberies in Raleigh, North Carolina, in March 2022.
Williams entered a guilty plea on October 10, 2023, to charges including two counts of interference with commerce by robbery and aiding and abetting, as well as a single count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. U.S. Attorney Michael Easley emphasized that the violent actions of Williams and his co-conspirator, particularly the use of a firearm to threaten employees, underscore the necessity of prioritizing the prosecution of dangerous felons under the Violent Crime Action Plan (VCAP).
The court heard how Williams, alongside an accomplice, targeted a Dollar General store and a Circle K gas station, using intimidation and the threat of violence to execute the robberies. Following these incidents,
Williams was apprehended on April 1, 2022, for an unrelated offense and subsequently confessed to his involvement in the March robberies.
