Newark, NJ – In a call for community assistance, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé urges the public to help identify suspects in a recent armed robbery. The incident occurred last Thursday at a business located in the 900 block of 18th Avenue.

Around 3:10 p.m., a group of five masked males armed with handguns stormed into the establishment. They demanded cash while subjecting victims to life-threatening situations. One victim was forcibly laid face down, with a gun pressed to his head as a suspect rifled through his pockets. Another victim was held at gunpoint in the lobby, and an employee suffered a physical assault, being struck with a handgun. This employee was later transported to University Hospital and is in stable condition. After obtaining cash and personal property, the suspects fled westbound on 18th Avenue.

The Newark Police Department is actively investigating this alarming crime and seeks the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects responsible for this act of violence.

Director Fragé encourages anyone with information about the suspects’ identities to contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Confidentiality is assured for all tips, which may also lead to a reward. This outreach highlights the crucial role of community collaboration in addressing and preventing crime in Newark.
