Brooklyn Man Arrested in Connection with Six Shooting Incidents

Brooklyn, NY – Thomas Abreu, a 26-year-old resident of Brooklyn, was arrested and charged on Tuesday, February 21, 2024, at approximately 12:20 PM within the 84th Precinct, in connection to a series of shooting incidents that occurred last year.

The shootings, which took place on Saturday, July 8, 2023, spanned across the 75th and 102nd Precincts, prompting a swift response from the New York City Police Department. The first incident resulted in a 21-year-old male sustaining a gunshot wound to the shoulder at the intersection of Ashford Street and Arlington Avenue. He was transported to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.

Later, an 86-year-old male was shot in the back in front of 108-19 Jamaica Avenue and was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, with his identity withheld pending family notification.


Other incidents included shootings at the intersection of 108 Street and Jamaica Avenue, where shots were fired at a group without injury, and two more individuals were shot and injured at separate locations on Jamaica Avenue.

A thorough investigation, aided by video evidence, led to the distribution of the suspect’s image to officers citywide, culminating in the arrest of a 25-year-old male on a scooter in the 103rd Precinct. A firearm was recovered during the arrest.

Abreu faces charges related to six shooting incidents, marking a significant development in the NYPD’s ongoing efforts to combat gun violence. The investigation remains active, with further updates anticipated as the case progresses.
