Two More Seals Rescued at the Jersey Shore Taken Into Care by Stranding Center

Ocean City, NJ – The Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) has recently admitted two additional Grey seal pups due to the ongoing annual migration, raising the total number of seals under their care to nine.

The first of the new arrivals, MMSC #24-014, was found on February 18th in Ship Bottom, presenting as the season’s smallest seal yet with a body weight of just 26.6 pounds. Described as thin and very small, this male Grey seal pup is now recuperating comfortably in Pen 3 of the Pool House.

Just days later, on February 21st, another male Grey seal pup, MMSC #24-020, was discovered on the beach near the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City. This pup was suffering from multiple injuries, including a severe laceration on his left rear flipper and additional lacerations and punctures on his right front flipper and shoulder, weighing in at 43.2 pounds. He is currently in guarded condition, resting in Pen A of the Intensive Care Unit.
