TOMS RIVER, NJ – A power outage caused by a traffic collision on Hooper Avenue in Toms River early Friday morning has been restored by First Energy Corp. The crash, first reported by the Asbury Park Press left three people injured.
At around 2:33 AM on Friday, Toms River police and CSOs (EMS) rushed to the scene of the accident on Bay Avenue just west of Oak Avenue.
Tyjir Wiggs, a 20-year-old from the Bronx, NY, lost control while driving eastbound on Bay Avenue, veering off the road to the left and colliding with a utility pole. The impact caused the pole to crack at its base, resulting in power lines falling onto the road and obstructing passage.
Wiggs and two passengers sustained injuries from the crash and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The damaged vehicle was removed from the scene by Accurate Towing, and efforts to repair the utility pole are underway. Although the area remains navigable, the jughandle from Oak Avenue onto Bay Avenue westbound is closed until further notice. The timeline for the completion of the utility pole repair remains uncertain.
The Toms River Police Department has issued numerous summonses in connection with the incident, which is currently under investigation by Traffic Officer Gambardella.
