Virginia Man Pleads Guilty to Felonies Stemming from Capitol Breach

WASHINGTON – A man from Springfield, Virginia, has admitted to committing two felonies, including an assault on law enforcement, during the U.S. Capitol breach on January 6, 2021. Joseph Brody, 24, entered his guilty plea on Wednesday, February 21, acknowledging his role in the events that interrupted the Congressional session meant to certify the 2020 presidential election results. U.S. District Judge Dabney L. Friedrich has set Brody’s sentencing for June 28.

Brody was among the crowd that attended a rally before storming the Capitol, entering the building through the Senate Wing Door around 2:16 PM. He and his group maneuvered through various parts of the Capitol, including the Crypt and the Corridor of Honorary Citizens, before entering Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office suite. Eventually, they reached the Senate Chamber, where Brody was seen recording or photographing inside.

The assault on a law enforcement officer occurred as Brody and others were leaving the Capitol, with Brody using a metal barricade to push against an officer trying to prevent rioters from breaching the North Door. Furthermore, Brody participated in looting and destroying media equipment set up outside the Capitol. His sentencing is awaited as the legal process continues.
