ANNAPOLIS, MD — A security scare at the Maryland State Capitol prompted an intensive response from law enforcement on Thursday afternoon.

The Annapolis Police Department received an anonymous threat targeting the State Capitol at 5 PM, leading to a collaborative effort with the Maryland Capitol Police and Maryland State Police to assess and neutralize any potential dangers.

Lawmakers and Capitol employees were instructed to shelter in place while officers conducted a thorough sweep of the area. After careful examination, authorities concluded that the threat was unfounded, and an all-clear was issued just before 7 PM.

Annapolis Police Chief Ed Jackson stated the anonymous tip was promptly shared with the Maryland Capitol Police, who took the lead in the investigation. Jackson confirmed that there was no evidence of a credible threat, ensuring the Capitol’s safety and security.
