GEORGETOWN, DELAWARE — A tragic incident unfolded this morning as Delaware State Police are probing a fatal two-vehicle collision in Georgetown, resulting in the death of one woman.

At around 7:40 a.m. on February 29, a 2020 Volvo VHD roll-off container truck, heading west on Shortly Road and nearing Bull Pine Road, collided with a 2008 Honda Civic. The Honda, moving south on Bull Pine Road, failed to halt at a stop sign and entered the intersection, leading to a direct impact by the Volvo. The collision caused the Volvo to override and subsequently overturn off the roadway, while the Honda came to a stop in the eastbound lane of Shortly Road.

The Honda’s driver, a 34-year-old woman from Georgetown, was declared deceased at the scene, with her identity being withheld pending family notification. A 29-year-old woman, also from Georgetown and a passenger in the Honda, suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a trauma center. Meanwhile, the Volvo’s driver, a 59-year-old man from Millsboro, received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident led to a closure of the road for over six hours as authorities conducted investigations and cleared the area.
