Juvenile Charged for Bomb Threats to Schools in Multiple States

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND — The Montgomery County Police Department announced that criminal charges have been filed against a juvenile male for making bomb threats to Wootton High School, as well as to schools in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Missouri, and Howard County, MD. The threats to Wootton High School were made on November 27, 2023, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement and emergency services.

Following the threat, which was received at approximately 8:01 a.m., school personnel initiated a 911 call. The school, located on Wootton Parkway, was swiftly evacuated by community engagement officers, 1st District officers, K-9 units, and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel. An extensive search of the premises revealed no bombs.

The Behavioral Assessment and Administrative Unit of the Montgomery County Police led the investigation. Through witness interviews, evidence collection, and execution of search warrants, the juvenile was identified as the suspect in the bomb threats. The investigation also linked him to similar threats across multiple states.


The charges filed against the juvenile include Threat of Mass Violence, Telephone Misuse, among others. The case has been referred to the Department of Juvenile Services for disposition, and the juvenile is facing additional charges in other states related to similar incidents.
