Denino’s in Brick is a Taste of Staten Island at the Jersey Shore

In Brick, New Jersey, there’s a spot called Denino’s Pizzeria South that’s dishing out some seriously good pizza. It’s a story that stretches all the way back to Sicily, Italy, with Giovanni Denino making his way to America and eventually setting up shop in Staten Island, NY.

Fast forward through the years, and his son Carlo Denino adds pizza to the tavern’s menu, making the place an instant hit spoken about across the entire tri-state area for years.

A few years ago, the Denino family decided to spread the love to the Jersey Shore, opening Denino’s South Pizzeria in Brick. They’ve stuck to their roots, serving up authentic NY-style pizza and a bunch of Italian favorites, all with homemade dough and sauce that’s baked just right.

Is it the water? Who knows, but whatever they’re doing in Jersey, the food is pretty much the same as what you get at the Staten Island restaurant.

The story reportedly began with the opening of a confectionery store by Giovanni in the Port Richmond section of Staten Island, NY, which eventually evolved into a full tavern serving beer post-prohibition.

The pivotal moment came when Carlo Denino, Giovanni’s son, introduced pizza to the tavern’s menu, an addition that took Staten Island by storm. Carlo’s vision expanded the menu while maintaining simplicity and freshness, solidifying Denino’s Tavern and Pizzeria as a household name far beyond Staten Island.

In a bold move, the Denino family decided to extend their legacy to the Jersey Shore, opening Denino’s South Pizzeria in Brick. This expansion was marked by a commitment to uphold the tradition of authentic NY Style Pizza and Italian cuisine, characterized by homemade dough and sauce, baked to crispy perfection.

The place has got a pretty solid fan base, boasting a 4.4 rating on Google and 4.5 on Tripadvisor. Locals rave about the crispy pizza and dishes like Chicken Parmesan and Penne Vodka Sauce. Even though there’s been a bit of chatter about the service, the food — especially the crispy pizza and unique clam pie — keeps everyone coming back for more.
