Suicidal Man Safely Rescued After Standoff at Toms River Parking Garage

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Rumors swirled about Toms River today as a man threatened to jump off the roof of a parking garage early Monday morning.

The Toms River Police Department reported they had successfully resolved a critical situation involving a suicidal man at the Community Medical Center. The incident unfolded when police were alerted to the missing individual at approximately 08:47 am.


Authorities located the man around 09:40 am, positioned on the ledge of the top floor of the hospital’s parking garage, threatening to leap.

A team of negotiators from the Toms River Police Department Detective Bureau engaged with the individual, safely coaxing him down after three hours of negotiation.

The man was taken for a mental health evaluation.

The operation saw collaboration from multiple agencies, including the Toms River Fire Department, Neptune Township Emergency Management, which provided a jump air bag, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, and the security team at Community Medical Center.
