Newark Supermarket Armed Robbers Terrorize Employee at Gunpoint

NEWARK, NJ — Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé has called for public assistance to identify two suspects in a recent armed robbery. The incident occurred at a supermarket in the 500 block of Bergen Street on February 22, resulting in a loss of $846.00.

During the robbery, which occurred around 7:15 p.m., one suspect brandished a firearm and instructed an employee to lie on the ground. The accomplice then leaped over the counter, extracting cash from two registers before both fled south on Bergen Street.

The armed suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 5’9” tall with a thin build and a medium dark complexion, seen wearing a sweatshirt, jeans, black Nike ACG boots, and a ski mask. His accomplice is described as standing 5’6” tall with a heavyset build and a light complexion, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt inside out, black ski pants, a ski mask, and black/white Nike sneakers.


Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the identification and apprehension of the suspects involved in this crime.
