Arrest Made in Sussex Central High School Shooting Incident

GEORGETOWN, DE — Delaware State Police have apprehended 19-year-old Gerod Sturgis of Georgetown in relation to a shooting at Sussex Central High School last week. The incident, which occurred on February 27, 2024, involved gunfire in the school’s parking lot during a basketball game. Although multiple shell casings were found, there were no reported injuries.

Investigation led to the discovery that a 15-year-old had fired shots at a vehicle leaving the school premises, subsequently fleeing in a Jeep Cherokee driven by Sturgis. The nearby Howard T. Ennis School also sustained damage from the gunfire. The juvenile has been charged with four felony counts of reckless endangering 1st degree and criminal mischief, and is currently detained at Stevenson House Detention Center.

Sturgis was arrested on February 29, 2024, and faces multiple charges related to the incident. Following his arraignment, he was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,000 secured bond. The Delaware State Police continue to investigate the matter and urge anyone with information to come forward.
