HYATTSVILLE, MD — A retired occupational therapist from Prince George’s County claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize from the March 2 drawing. Ignoring her family’s advice against playing, she continued purchasing Powerball and Mega Millions tickets, holding onto the belief that her persistence would one day pay off.

For the drawing that changed her fortune, she opted for a quick-pick ticket, a departure from her usual method of selecting numbers. This spontaneous decision led to her matching four white balls and the Power Ball, securing her the third-tier prize among 29 nationwide winners. The realization of her win came after a restless night, followed by a moment of disbelief when scanning her ticket.

Expressing gratitude for her win, the Hyattsville resident shared how it dispels her financial concerns and vindicates her long-held belief in the possibility of winning. Despite understanding the slim odds, her optimism never wavered, a sentiment now rewarded with a substantial prize.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Lottery vending machine located at Live! Casino & Hotel in Hanover. Plans for the prize money include addressing several much-needed home repair projects, bringing relief and satisfaction to the lucky winner.

With no jackpot winner in the recent drawing, the Powerball jackpot has escalated to an estimated annuity of $521 million for the upcoming draw on Saturday, March 9. The cash option for this drawing stands at $249.6 million.
