CSX Railroad Work to Shut Down North College Avenue

Jeff Jones

NEWARK, NJ – Due to weather conditions, the planned CSX railroad maintenance road closures have undergone changes, as announced by Sgt. Joseph Conover on March 9.

The closure of North College Avenue has been postponed, with no rescheduled date provided at this time. Meanwhile, New London Avenue and West Main Street are set to close from Tuesday, March 12, at 5:00 am until Thursday, March 13, at 10:00 pm. These closures will be in effect around the clock at the railroad crossings.

Pedestrian access across the railroad tracks will be strictly prohibited during these periods. Individuals must use designated crossings at North College Avenue or New London Avenue, depending on availability, or the Rodney Underpass. Details on detours are available in prior announcements.

Despite the road closures, train operations will continue as usual. Both City and State laws enforce the prohibition of crossing railroad tracks outside of marked crossings. Residents and travelers are advised to plan for potential delays and exercise caution when navigating the affected areas.
